Climadjust to expand its services thanks to EU funding

Tuesday, November 1, 2022

Since September 1st 2022, Predictia and the Cantabria Physics Institute (IFCA-CSIC) are jointly working in developing “a web service for the assessment of sectorial tailored climate change”, a joint public-private project funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain, the Research State Agency and the European Union under the Resilience, Transformation and Recovery Plan framework.

The project aims to develop custom climate services providing specific information on the impact of climate change on different sectors, such as finance and insurance. This will be developed based on the already-existing Climadjust web service enabling an easy-to-use interface to generate tailored reports for different sectors and regions. In collaboration with IFCA-CSIC, Predictia developed this service thanks to a previous call initially co-funded by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S).

Launched in 2020, Climadjust uses C3S data as well as validated data processing methodologies in order to obtain custom bias-adjusted climate projections, from which climate indexes relevant to the above-mentioned sectors are calculated. In particular, Climadjust provides projections featuring essential climatic variables such as temperature or rainfall. So far, researchers and academics have been the main users, whilst its development is progressing now towards expanding its tools to better respond to market demands, targeting sectors like insurance, finance, urban water management and agriculture.

The expansion of Climadjust is part of the CPP2021-008510 project, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by the European Union “NextGenerationEU”/PRTR.
