The DIGISOLAR Project has just kicked-off – we’re working to integrate thermosolar energy with other kinds of renewable energy to widen the alternative spectrum in the energy transition process and provide more stability to the electricity supply.
Predictia is a part of the project consortium, totalling 10 partners across Europe led by Catalan company DCarbo. The project has been funded by European Commission’s Horizon Europe grants.
Some of the tasks we’ll undertake in DIGISOLAR are the development of high-precission weather forecasting models, combining physical models and AI techniques. It’s a key field for sun-derived energy production forecasting in which we feature an extensive expertise.
Furthermore, we’ll lead the development of specialised software in charge of energy distribution optimisation (paving the way for decarbonisation), managing operations and detecting potential supply deviations, as well as contributing to energy generation planning by using digital twins.
Thermosolar: from sunlight to heat
Thermosolar energy (both for home and industrial use) doesn’t turn sunlight into electricity, as photovoltaic does. It heats a fluid up that can be later used for either generating electricity or providing heat. It is therefore more efficient and it can be stored and used when the sun is not shining.
Should you want more info on the project, spanning until the end of August 2029, you may find it here.
